Requirement for Indoor Substation Part - 1

The substations drawing shall carry a title block showing name of project, name and address of developer and architect and endorsed by the registered consultant/contractor responsible for the planning, design and supervision of the installation work.

All dimensions and figures shown on plans are to be shown in the metric system and are to be taken as checked by Consultant / Contractor.

The substation roof shall be of spandek roofing laid to proper falls and with water-proofing materials. Galvanized iron rainwater pipes from roof are to be brought right down to surrounding drains.

All internal walls and columns are to be provided with 20 mm cement plastering, and emulsion-painted. The ceiling shall be made of fire-rated materials of the approved type and is to be emulsion painted as well.

All wood work, metal work, etc are to be suitably painted; all woodwork shall be anti-termite treated. The external wall shall be painted with weather shielded paint or equivalent.

Door shall be made of aluminium roller / sliding doors and provided with bolting requirements for locks. Minimum dimensions are :
Switch gear room = 2700mm x 1800mm W (Nett)
Transformer room = 2700mm x 2700mm W (Nett)

Hasp and staple (125mm x 50mm x 5mm) shall be of the brass type and door hinges (125mm x 90mm x 3mm) shall be of the stainless steel type.

Transformer and switch gear are to be housed in separate rooms with brick walling of at least 225mm thickness.

Should there be more than one transformer to be installed, the individual transformers are to be separated by either:
A minimum distance of at least 1.5 m or,
2.5 m high brick walling of at least 225 mm thickness.

The battery room, where required, shall be housed in a separate room; the minimum floor area shall be 2 m x 2 m.Adequate ventilation is to be provided.

Substation floor are to be of a 50mm thick cement rendering including a 20mm granolithic smooth finish of one part of cement to one part of granite chipping and one part of sand with an addition of 9 kg of ironite to each 45 kg of cement.

Switch gear floors are to take a load of 1.000 kg per square meter.

The engineer in-charge shall be notified prior to the final rendering of the substation (wherever applicable)

Clearance requirements are from sides and rear of switch gear shall be at least 1.0 meter and front clearance shall be either :-
The length of the fully with drawn circuit breaker truck plus an additional minimum length of 1.0 m.
A minimum length of 2.0 m.
Clearance from the top edge of the switch gear to the ceiling shall be at least 900 mm or greater.

Transformer plinth shall be of a minimum area 1.2 m square and shall be able to take a load of 10 tonnes. Side clearances to wall of 1 m are required around the transformer to be installed
